Art Guild New Jersey show

I would like to extend a very fond farewell to the 1670 Irving Street home of Arts Guild New Jersey in Rahway. It has helped this great organization serve the art community for over a decade. The Guild will continue to live as an online entity for now, as it plans to relocate to a new location.

I would also like to thank AGNJ for including my painting “Going Out”, in the 2016-17 NEXUS show which opens on September 11 2016.

“The day that I had scheduled this model to sit for me ended up being the same day that we learned that David Bowie died. We were both fans and listened to sad Bowie songs all night. I planned on painting Amanda with a smile, but it never worked out that way. Her smile just didn’t seem to work.
I always try to tell a story with my paintings and that night the model for this work read like someone feeling rejection. So I painted her alone in the foreground at a bar or restaurant. The background is a dark wall with part of a painting hung slightly to the side.
The title has two possible applications. One is that it is literally late in the evening, the other is that the subject’s friend or maybe romantic interest is late. Maybe the subject is still holding out hope that her date will show?”

Art Shows in May and June

Several paintings from the Ladies in Black series have been selected for inclusion in national juried art competitions next month. During these shows a panel of judges will review selected art for artistic and technical merit and award money and prizes to the entries with the highest score. After judging, these paintings will be displayed in their perspective galleries for roughly a month.

“Going Out” will be included in the 86 Annual Juried Open Show at the National Art League. The show will run May 2 through June 4.

“Shoe Shopping” will be featured in The Brooklyn Waterfront Arts Coalition’s Wide Open 7 competition while “A Study of Lauren O.” will be featured in the Affordable Art show at the same venue. The BWAC gallery is located at 499 Van Brunt Street in Brooklyn and will be open from 1-6PM on weekends during the show (May 7-June 12).

Ladies in Black

The “Ladies in Black” series is a collection of oil paintings that each use women in black attire with minimal staging. The two paintings below are of Rebekah Cannon and her pet dog Vero. Each painting is 24″ by 36″. This series  will be periodically updated as new works are introduced.

Oil Paintings

“I decided a few months ago to step back from watercolors and work solely in oil for the time being. Oil paint is a medium that I had not touched since before high school but always wanted to master. In the meantime, I won’t be showing at any galleries or art shows. I also want to say that I appreciate the feedback that I’ve been getting on fb and instagram for the paintings that I have posted.”

The actual street address is a (not so) closely guarded secret. So for directions, message me on Instagram, Facebook, or just email me at info@BrooklynSeth.com.

I have created several original works of art just for the show so be sure to check it out.

The A Train to Far Rockaway

“The A Train to Far Rockaway” is the latest subway painting in “The Mermaids of North America” series. This painting includes the first ever depiction of a mercat, which is a cat-fish, not at all related to a catfish.

Also, thank you to all the Tumblr users who have re-blogged and liked this painting! I appreciate the love. The A Train to Far Rockaway
